Main Points

  • All entries must be submitted as both a print and a digital image.
  • An entered image must be the sole work of the entrant.
  • All entrants must be currently enrolled at a school within the Waikato.
  • Students may only enter through the school at which they are currently enrolled.
  • A student may only be entered into the categories that apply to their current year group.
  • A student may have up to 3 images entered into each category.
  • A school may have up to 10 images entered into each category.
  • The digital image should be a JPEG of the highest quality available.
  • The printed imaged should be 12 inches on its longest side.
  • Each photo should have a title and a description to help the judges understand your thoughts behind the photo.
  • Images should be a faithful reproduction of what you saw.
  • Any minor digital editing done to the image should be entirely done by the student and noted in the accompanying statement.
  • If posting entries don’t leave it until the last minute – allow at least 5 working days to ensure your entries arrive by Friday 7th October.

The Rules

  1. The promoter of the Waikato Photographic Society Young Photographer Awards 2011 Competition (“the competition”) in The Waikato Photographic Society Inc. P.O.Box 495, Hamilton New Zealand (“the promoter”).
  2. Entrants submitting entries into the Competition will be deemed to have accepted the following terms and conditions.
  3. The Competition is open to all students currently enrolled in a Waikato school up to and including Year 13. Judges family members are not eligible. Entrants aged 16 or under must have their parent’s or legal guardian’s permission to enter the Competition. Permission is to be sought by the school entering the entrant.
  4. Entrants may only enter the competition through their school and all communication will only happen through a single, named member of staff at that school (“th School Contact”)
  5. The are 9 categories across 3 themes (namely Natural World, Colour and Movement). A school may have the same student submit up to 3 entries into each theme. The same image (or similars including variations of the image) may not be entered into different themes. However the Promotor or the Competition judges have the discretion to move an image into a different theme if they judge it appropriate.
  6. A school may submit a maximum of 10 entries into each category.
  7. Any entrant that enters an image that identifies a person or their property must have permission from that person in order to use the image for the Competition.
  8. All entries must be submitted both as a print and as a digital image on a CD. Both the print and the CD should be correctly labelled (see How To Enter) The print should be 12inches on it’s longest side. The digital copy should be a JPEG and be as large as possible.
  9. All photos entered into the Competition must be faithful representations of what the photographer saw at the time of taking the photo. Digital adjustments are only acceptable if they are for minor cleaning work, levels, curves, colour, saturation, contrast work and cropping. Entrants will be disqualified from the Competition if, the Promoter or the judges believe that the images have been manipulated or are not the entrant’s original work.
  10. Entrants should not do anything to upset or stress animals in their attempt to photograph an animal. Photos will be rejected from the Competition if the Promoter or the judges believe that they show an animal in distress or upset.
  11. Photos or similars that are entered into the Competition must not be entered into any other competition outside of their school, where the announcement of the winners is before 25th November 2011.
  12. The closing date for entries is Friday 7th October. Any entries received by the Promoter after this time will be rejected from the Competition.
  13. The judges of the Competition are named on the Website. The judges judge all photos that are short-listed by the Promoter.
  14. All finalists to the Competition will be notified by the Promoter through their School Contact no later than Friday 4th November 2011 by email. The decisions of the judges and the Promoter are final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  15. Prizes are non-exchangeable and no cash alternative will be offered. Prizes will be presented at an official awards ceremony on (TBC) where the winners will be announced.
  16. Each entrant or entrants parent or legal guardian (if aged 16 or under) agrees that, only for the purposes of promoting the Competition and future Waikato Photographic Society Young Photographer Awards, the Promoter may (1) use the entrant’s first name, surname, school and age and (2) disclose the entrant’s name and age to third parties. The Promoter shall seek the entrant’s prior consent (or the entrant’s parent’s or legal guardian’s prior consent if the entrant is aged 16 or under) before disclosing any further personal data to third parties.
  17. Entrants must be the sole copyright owner of all photos they enter into the Competition. Entrants warrant that their entry does not infringe the intellectual property rights of any other person. Entrants retain copyright rights in their submitted photos and, where possible, the Promoter will credit them. However, by entering, all entrants give the Promoter a worldwide royalty free license to use, reproduce and exhibit the submitted photos in all media, only for the purposes of promoting or publicising this Competition or future Waikato Photographic Society Young Photographer Awards for a period of ten years from 5 September 2011. Any further use of the photos will be agreed with the entrant under a separate agreement.
  18. Other than death or personal injury arising from the acts or omissions of the Promoter or its employees, no responsibility is taken by the Promoter for entries which are lost, delayed, misdirected, damaged or incomplete for any technical or other reason
  19. The Promoter reserves the right to cancel, modify or supersede the Competition at any time if, in its sole discretion, a Competition is not capable of being conducted as specified.
